The Barcelona–Sitges 2026 Vintage Car Rally recaptures the charisma of its finest editions

The start in Plaça Sant Jaume sparked public enthusiasm in an edition marked by the debut of several very special entries.

The return to Port de Sitges-Aiguadolç and the mass arrival at La Fragata confirmed the event’s deep-rooted popular appeal.

The 68th Barcelona–Sitges International Vintage Car Rally, held this Sunday, 1 March, has restored the values that defined the event’s most celebrated eras. The strong level of interest in this year’s edition, which had to close entries weeks ahead of schedule, was reflected in a line-up of vehicles of outstanding quality.

A total of 82 automobiles and 16 motorcycles took part in the official competition, joined by 2 cars and 3 motorcycles integrated into the cavalcade outside classification, bringing the total to over one hundred vehicles on the road.

One of the most notable aspects of this edition was the increase in the average age of the participating vehicles: more than 75% of the automobiles were over one hundred years old. In keeping with Rally tradition, the honour of leading the cavalcade went to the oldest car, this year the 1899 Peugeot Type 19, owned by the Portuguese Fundação Abel e João de Lacerda. It was accompanied at the start in Plaça Sant Jaume by the 1898 Cudell De Dion 2-1/4 HP from the same collection, before heading along Via Laietana and Passeig de Colom towards Sitges.

The urban section through Barcelona unfolded with complete punctuality and without any noteworthy incidents, accompanied by thousands of spectators gathered at various points along the route. The passage along the Garraf coastal road once again proved one of the Rally’s most emblematic stretches, combining mechanical challenge with striking scenery.

After the winding section, the cavalcade returned to its traditional stop at Port de Sitges-Aiguadolç, absent for the past three editions due to modernisation works at the marina. The return to the port was met with a significant turnout, transforming the space into a lively meeting point before the final stretch towards central Sitges.

The arrival at La Fragata confirmed the Rally’s enduring popular appeal. Thousands of people accompanied the final parade to the esplanade, where the vehicles remained on display for several hours.

At the end of the day, the President of Foment de Sitges, David Rosell, stated: “The Rally is not merely a parade of vintage vehicles; it is a cultural event that connects generations and projects Sitges and Barcelona onto the international stage. Seeing more than one hundred centenarian machines complete this route with such a public response proves that heritage, when preserved and organised with rigour, remains fully alive.”
